computer lab
2011, the last week of December. Cyclone warning in the Coromandel coast, particularly in the geographical region of Auroville. Everyone thinks, it would be an easy, yet-another-storm & that, this too shall pass. 150 km away, in Chennai, the 1986 Batch of Engineers from IIT-Madras are having a nostalgic reunion sharing stories and their life histories and geographies – in the background of the calm before the storm.
But Thane, the powerful cyclonic storm (‘hurricane’ in Americanese) happens on 29th morn. The works. But again, it is no endgame. Auroville (just like many other entities) springs back, resiliently, painstakingly, tree by tree, brick by brick. The discussions and connections happen. And, a particularly spirited and generous band of Metallurgists of the aforesaid batch, decides to pitch in its collective strengths. These folks want to be part of the rebuilding efforts and decide to work around the idea of a fitting tribute to the memory of their dear and loveable classmate – Mohan Krishnamurthy. They think – What more to do in his memory than, setting-up and dedicating a modern 20 node computer center (with a very significant digital library of educational materials) for the benefit of the local village kids... they decide in the affirmative and act. They decide to refurnish the computer laboratory in the school with totally new equipments. They also pay for many additions to the buildings as well as some repairs. Thus, Udavi school of Auroville, catering to the needs of the local village children benefits immensely. Thanks so much guys. |
