the adventure youth camp!
Every year in the month of May an educational trip to Agra, New Delhi and Nainital is organized for 9th standard students, and it is an exciting two-week tour. The objective of such a trip is to give an experience of communal living, and learn new things out of classroom. Most of these students have never been outside the village so far, and it’s a big challenge for them to stay away from their parents and relatives. Many will be travelling by train for the first time. A study of India’s history and its monuments is part of the school curriculum, and students get to visit Taj Mahal, Agra fort and various places around Delhi.
In Nainital, Uttarakhand, a five day course in rock climbing is organized by Sri Aurobindo Ashram, Van Nivas. These camps are packed with fun and adventure and practical experience in daily life situations. They are held during the summer break and attract students from all over India to participate in its course. The adventure youth camp activities (scrambling, rock climbing, rappelling, river crossing) help our students to build up stamina, courage, and self-confidence. Treks start with a 3 km walk, and by the end of the camp almost all the students are able to complete the 10 km trek (to the highest point around Nainital) and then 16 km to Kainchi. To keep the body flexible and fit, yoga based keep fit exercises are carried out every morning throughout the camp. This has been a great learning opportunity, and fosters team spirit and mutual understanding among the students. |
